Background

The BGL Group, a leading digital distributor of insurance and household financial services, required the existing car park and perimeter lighting to be replaced with new LED technology light fittings at their Peterborough based head office.

Challenges

  • Working around a live operating site whilst keeping disruption to a minimum

  • Working in an outside environment had its challenges, including the weather

Actions and Solutions

The BGL Group contracted Remark to remove the existing lighting columns with poor lighting output and associated concrete foundations and install new Galvanised lighting column posts, complete with post top LED light fittings finished in power coated grey, in the Central Square Car Park. In total, 84 x columns received new spigot adapters with a total of 112 x new post top LED light fittings being provided and installed.

We proposed that the post top LED light fittings were constructed of an extruded aluminium body to provide a (4000k) LED array lighting output. Operating at only 83watts of power consumption, the Tamlite manufactured light fittings compliment the proposed central square and car park lighting replacement solution and provide a reduction of electrical utility consumption of 67% compared to the previous 250watt models installed.

The Remark Group also supplied and installed external LED bollard light fittings in the perimeter area.  Remark’s proposed LED bollards are constructed of an extruded aluminium body to provide a (4000k) LED array lighting output. Operating at only 23watts of power consumption, this type of LED bollard light fitting provides a reduction of electrical utility consumption of 61% compared to the current 80watt models installed.

During the installation of the new lighting we quickly discovered that the underground cell packs, containing existing cabling, had corroded resulting in the supply and installation of new cabled infrastructure to support the new lighting solutions.
