Background
Huntingdonshire Regional College in Huntingdon offers further education, apprenticeships and tailored training courses to pupils from the age of 16 upwards. The Remark Group was asked to design and install a number of network and audio visual solutions over 4 years. The college, spread across 2 campuses, had complex voice, data and fibre requirements, and AV equipment was needed in a number of rooms and open spaces.

- Working around a live operating site whilst keeping disruption to a minimum
- Liaising with the client’s IT department for connection to the existing Data Network Infrastructure
- Locating a suitable Audio Visual solution that would suit the college
- Finding a cost-effective solution that would suit the client
Actions and Solutions
In order to transform Huntingdonshire Regional College’s network infrastructure we removed and installed new server cabinets in the dedicated IT Comms’ room. A CAT6 Voice and data network infrastructure was supplied, installed and commissioned throughout the college.
The existing voice cable links were relocated and the fibre optics were re-routed, pulled back and spliced, and terminated on the fibre panel within the data cabinet. The new systems were designed to provide a strong backbone to support the network infrastructure, allowing students and staff to access the network.
Whilst the network cabling projects we have carried out for the college are extensive, two key projects that the College were impressed with were the procurement and installation of TVs outside the common room and in the Hub, a newly created social space for learners to chill out. Not only was the 60” TV fitted within The Hub a bespoke frame that we devised and constructed on-site, but we also provided a new ONELAN Digital Signage box for connection to the existing LAN infrastructure a method to communicate to pupils, students and staff.
Furthermore in the hall, we supplied and installed a Short Throw Projector and speaker system with VGA connection. The TV was provided with a commissioned, moveable stand to accommodate the Wii games console, for which we commissioned a specially built discrete bracket which was incorporated into the design for added security. We have also worked with the college to update its audio visual provision across six areas of the main site and in the Foundation Learning Centre, from the replacement of cables and volume control units to the installation of switched fuse spur outlets.
